Julius Erving Throwback Jersey, 76ers Tees XXL-6X, XLT-5XLT
Before the dunk became a nightly highlight contest, there was Dr. J — the afro, the hands that palmed the ball like a grapefruit, and a No. 6 jersey that spent half its life airborne. This page collects the Julius Erving jersey in big and tall throwback sizes: the 76ers classic in the XXL-6X range, with the XLT-5XLT tall cuts on the Sixers tees and apparel, every size on its own link. Throwback jerseys big and tall are usually the hardest version of a legend’s uniform to track down, so these big and tall throwback jerseys sit on individual links that take you straight to your size.
We are affiliated with dozens of online retailers, but only a few carry big and tall NBA throwback jerseys of famous legends like Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, etc… The retailer that we have recommended to you below does carry big and tall NBA throwback, including the Philadelphia 76ers Julius Erving Jersey.

Julius Erving Jersey — Dr. J’s No. 6 in 76ers Colors
The uniform fans picture is the home white with the red and blue trim from the Spectrum years — ERVING across the shoulders, the 6 underneath, and a whole arena waiting for him to take off from somewhere unreasonable. The photo below links into the Erving throwback range at Fanatics.

Plenty of throwbacks are about a team. This one’s about a style of play — Erving basically invented the modern above-the-rim game, and the Sixers fans who grew up at the Spectrum still talk about him the way other fans talk about whole championship teams.
Erving Sizing — Extended Sizes XXL-6X, Extended Tall Tees XLT-5XLT
The list below runs one size at a time: S, M, L and XL first, then 2X (the XXL), 3X, 4X, 5X and 6X — sizes up to 6XL — and after those the extended tall cuts, XLT, 2XLT, 3XLT, 4XLT and 5XLT. One split worth knowing: the Erving throwback jersey itself runs in the regular extended sizes, while the tall cuts live on the tees and other apparel — throwback jerseys aren’t made in tall sizes. Every link opens the 76ers men’s department already filtered to that size, so the regular-size links land where the jerseys are, and the tall-size links land on the tees and apparel cut for your frame.
A quick fit note: these Mitchell & Ness throwbacks wear roomier than today’s slim game jerseys — closer to the loose cut Erving played in. If you’re between sizes and wear your jersey on its own, the smaller one is often the better call; if you layer a hoodie under it for winter games in Philly, keep your usual size. Tall fans should go straight to the extended tall links — that’s where the tees and apparel in tall cuts live — rather than sizing up a jersey, since the length is the part a bigger regular size can’t add.
One honest note on stock: a legend’s sizes rotate in and out — availability can shift with stock levels and the season, and the extended sizes usually move first. That’s why every size link below opens the 76ers’ full men’s department filtered to that size: if the Erving throwback itself is picked over in your fit, you can still see every other Sixers option in your size.

The No. 6 From the Back — Erving Across the Shoulders
The second photo shows the view opposing fans saw most: ERVING lettered over the No. 6, usually a half-second before the play that ended the argument. This is the 1983 championship look — the last great Sixers team of that era, and the uniform most Dr. J collectors ask for by name.

Interesting Facts About Julius Erving
Erving was a superstar before the NBA ever got him. He started in the ABA with the Virginia Squires, then carried the New York Nets to two ABA championships while winning three ABA MVP awards. The league’s signature moment was his, too — at the 1976 ABA dunk contest, he took off from the free-throw line, a dunk people had described for years and most had never actually seen. Half his legend was built in a league half the country couldn’t watch on TV.
In 1976 the cash-strapped Nets sold his contract to Philadelphia, and the 76ers got their centerpiece. Erving won the NBA’s MVP award in 1981, and in 1983 he and Moses Malone finished the job — Malone’s famous “fo’ fo’ fo'” prediction nearly came true as those Sixers stormed through the playoffs and swept the Lakers for the title. The signature plays still circulate: the baseline scoop in the 1980 Finals, where he somehow swung the ball under the backboard and in, and the “rock the baby” dunk over Michael Cooper in 1983. One of his early Sixers teammates was Joe Bryant — whose son, Kobe Bryant, grew up watching Dr. J’s act from about as close as a kid can get.
His fingerprints are on everyone who came after. Shaquille O’Neal grew up idolizing Erving and carried the dunk back to the center position a generation later. Erving entered the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993, and two franchises hung his number: the 76ers retired his No. 6, and the Nets retired his ABA No. 32. Not many players own a retired number in two different leagues’ colors.
Julius Erving Jersey — Shopper Questions
Does the Julius Erving jersey come in big and tall XXL-6X sizes?
Yes — the jersey runs in the full XXL-6X range (XXL, 3X, 4X, 5X and 6X), and tall cuts from XLT to 5XLT are on the 76ers tees and apparel. Throwback jerseys big and tall run through the 76ers men’s department here, every size on its own link.
What tall Erving sizes are available?
The tall cuts — XLT, 2XLT, 3XLT, 4XLT and 5XLT — live on the tees and apparel, not the jersey itself, and each is listed with its own link. They add length through the body and sleeves rather than just width.
Is this his 76ers jersey or his ABA Nets jersey?
This is the 76ers No. 6 — the Philadelphia uniform from the 1983 championship team. Erving wore No. 32 with the Nets in the ABA, and that number is retired in Brooklyn; the 6 belongs to Philly.
How does the Erving throwback fit?
Loose, like the era it copies — roomier than a modern fitted game jersey. Most fans take their usual size for layering room, or one down for a closer fit over a t-shirt.
More Throwback Legends
Dr. J tends to be the first jersey in a legends collection, not the last. The big-man chapter of the same era lives on this site’s Tim Duncan throwback jerseys page — a quieter style of dominance, same extended size run — and the Shaq and Kobe pages linked in the facts above round out the set. A Dr. J throwback also makes an easy gift for the fan who already owns the modern stuff: it’s the one jersey in the closet that starts conversations, and the size links at the top of this page will get you to his fit in the 76ers men’s department.
